Do you take part in the BBC 500 words competition?
Some of our academies do, and some don’t……… 

As part of the work of the SPT Foundation Fund, under the objective of the pursuit of excellence, we would like to invite you to encourage our pupils and students to enter the local SPT Literacy Festival, as well as the BBC Radio 2  500 Words Competition. 

There will be prizes awarded by SPT Foundation Fund to pupils/students at each academy and then prizes will also be awarded to the overall SPTA winners within each key stage at the celebration event which will be held in the summer term.  The entry requirements are simple. Write a short story which contains no more than 500 words and send it in. 

All the entries will initially be judged by a member of the SPT Foundation Fund Literacy Festival, academy by academy. The academy winners and runners up will then be progressed to the next round and submitted to the panel of judges for the final decision. 

Students and pupils will be judged over three categories as follows: 

KS1
KS2
 KS3 

The prizes are detailed below:

Winner per Key Stage - £10 Book Voucher, Certificate and Trust Achievement Award
Runner Up per Key Stage - £5 Book Voucher, Certificate and Trust Achievement Award

Kindle Fire HD and £100 e-voucher for Kindle books
£500 grant to their academy for books and resources 

2nd Prize per Key Stage
Kindle Paperwhite and £50 e-voucher for Kindle books
£250 grant to their academy for books and resources

 3rd Prize per Key Stage
Kindle & £25 e-voucher for Kindle books
£100 grant to their academy for books and resources

Each Academy winner and runner up will also be invited to the SPT Foundation Fund Literacy Festival Celebration Event which will be held in the Summer Term, where the overall SPTA winners will be announced. 

To enter, please could each academy submit the pieces of work of no more than 500 words per entry to:

Please ensure all entries have the name of the pupil / student, academy they attend and which key stage they are currently in. 

The closing date for entries is Friday 4th March 2016. Academy winners will be notified on Tuesday 3rd May 2016 and the overall SPTA winners to be announced at the celebration event, planned for the final half term of this academic year – further details to follow. 

There is no cost to the academies to enter this competition. 

A template is located at the bottom of this page for pupils/students to use, although, entries not submitted on this form will still be accepted.  

We would also like to encourage academies to enter their pupils into the BBC Radio 2, 500 words competition at the same time – The closing date for this competition is Thursday 25th February 2016 at 19:00.
