Hanson Heroes
Year 9 Students at Hanson have begun their Grit Training programme with the West Yorkshire Fire Service. They are the third cohort to undertake the challenge and spent 6 days at Shipley Fire Station over a 6 week period.
The students all demonstrated great resilience (especially during winter) learning and applying practical skills such as First Aid, Ladder work, Hose laying and road traffic collision responses. The students Favourite part of the course were… “Cutting the doors off a car, it was sick!” and “Going to the top of the tower was the scariest thing ever but the view was amazing!”.
The staff of West Yorkshire Fire Service were excellent and really helped develop the confidence of the attending students many of whom are now keen to become a future firefighter.
Reinforcing the importance of the emergency services and giving students a greater understanding of the public sector support which they benefit from is a huge part of our focus on selflessness at Hanson.
Our Year 12 Public Services cohort have also benefitted from a day out at Fairweather Green fire station and we are really proud of our students who are on a pathway to being future public sector hero’s.
