Celebrating Thrive in our Primaries!

On the 17th September, England Lane opened its doors to primary staff across the trust to celebrate achieving the Thrive school of excellence award. They are now 1 of 28 schools across the UK so far and we are so proud that England Lane are the first Primary academy in the trust to receive recognition for their excellent work. They’ve been introducing Thrive into their whole school approach over the last 5 years.

The day started off with a school assembly where the Academy presented with the Thrive School of Excellence by Thrive representatives, Spencer and Amanda. Visitors were able to see first-hand how England Lane Academy includes Thrive in their everyday school tasks.

We had an incredible day celebrating England Lane Academy, part of Delta Academies Trust, for achieving Thrive School of Excellence status – only the second school in Yorkshire to gain the coveted accolade!

Visitors were than taken on a tour of the school and shown the different ways they have evolved over the last 5 years. This included their:

  • Sensory room
  • Garden area
  • Classroom displays
  • Amazing Thrive room used for drop in and 1-1 sessions.

After being taken on a tour of the school, there was the opportunity for staff to go to 3 different workshops. This allowed staff to see how they approach 1-1 sessions for Being, Doing and Thinking. It demonstrated the different ways a Thrive session can go and how they sometimes come to a more natural close.

After seeing the intervention groups, staff were able to ask any questions about the programme and how they have gotten to the level that they have. One key point of discussion here was bringing thrive into a whole school approach. This can be done by:

  • Training your staff
  • Altering the environment
  • The buy in from all staff and SLT involvement.

Another topic of conversation was discussing how staff reach all children who need Thrive support on a 1-1 or a small group basis. Talking about having a clear timetable of your week, seeing what time you have and where, giving yourself flexibility, communicating with staff and leadership support.

To close off the day, the staff from our other academies got the opportunity to put some ideas together and get some suggestions to take back to their academies. Each group had the chance to speak with Dom, Jo and Heather for advice that they can take away with them (as well as some handy information packs with Timetable examples).
